Call to mosaic artists

Mosaic Beach Studio has decided to focus on representing more local mosaic artists in the gallery portion of our studio. If you would like to show some of your pieces please contact us for contract and submission forms. Requirements are as follows.

1. Please submit quality .jpg images of your work. We will carry no more than 3 pieces per artist to offer the most opportunity to the largest collection of artists. Pieces will also be promoted on our website so we will accept no pieces without quality photography.

2. Details to be included with each piece are name, materials, size and price.

3. Upon being selected for the gallery it is your responsibility to deliver or ship the pieces for display and pick them up at the end of the three month period should they not sell.

4. Mosaic Beach Studio will take 25% of any piece sold so please price accordingly.

5. Pieces will be displayed for a maximum of 3 months to encourage turn-over and to keep the gallery fresh.

6. There are no rules about the type of mosaics submitted. Wall art, tables, etc will all be considered but space requirements may prohibit certain pieces at certain times.

New Exhibit

Please join us Thursday October 29th from 7-10pm for the opening of our latest mosaic exhibit featuring the work of Sue Davis-Mendelow. Sue creates both wall art and functional mosaics and her show will run until the end of November. We are still looking for our December artist. Email your images and CV to info@mosaicbeach.com to be considered.

"Shoes, Crows and Other Pieces"

Join us Thursday July 16th from 7-10pm for the opening night of the new mosaic exhibit by Suzanne Steeves.  Suzanne's gorgeous mosaics incorporate glass, smalti, marble and much more. This exhibit will run July 16th to August 20th at Mosaic Beach Studio, 1374 Danforth Ave in Toronto.

 

Art At The Castle

Casa Loma presents Art at the Castle, Saturday Feb 2nd from 12pm-8pm and Sunday Feb 3rd from 9am-6pm. Over 70 artists will be represented from a variety of mediums including Mosaic! Our good friend Dijana Bogdanovic will be there so look for her beautiful pieces and say hello. What a great opportunity to hear some great jazz, see some wonderful art and take in the splendour of Casa Loma.

Adults $16, Seniors $10, Children $8.75

Chest Of Hope Torso Exhibit & Silent Auction

Hey all! Sorry to have been MIA this summer. So busy but no excuses. Back to bloggin all the cool things going on!

From Monday Oct 22-Friday Oct 26 There will be an exhibit and silent auction at the Gladstone hotel in Toronto.

The Chest of Hope torso art project was brought to life by Toronto artist Christa Gampp in October 2006 to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and to raise public awareness on Breast Health Issues. Here is her story:

“Since October 2006 I have produced torso casts of volunteer models with the goal of transforming these plaster casts into original works of art.  The response from torso volunteers has been overwhelming – I have done casts of mothers, daughters, teachers, artists, therapists, television hosts, cancer survivors, and the list goes on. By August 2007, I had created many torso casts and completed the artwork on several pieces. But I realized that I would not be able to have them all ready in time for the exhibition and silent auction in October. I therefore decided to contact a few artist friends of mine to lend a “creative” hand by doing the artwork on some of the torsos."

And lucky me, Christa asked me to be one of the torso artist's! I will be going to the opening tonight from 7-10. Would love to see you guys there! Oh, and here is a pic of the torso I did. My model is a lovely greek woman and I wanted to honour her heritage and courage in a simple but elegant vine motif using smalti & stained glass. Check out other torsos at the chestofhope.ca
